I picked up this unit without high expectations, but was very surprised with the quality of this unit for the imprint.

The audio and video quality is estimable. It wasn't installed in a vehicle with a chubby "system", but a dead dilapidated minivan. It replaced a 1995 Dodge Caravan factory cassette deck. Yeah, yeah I know. :)

Why did I wait so long? I musty an MP3 player with a RF modulator, so I didn't care about the cassette deck. My Rio Karma MP3 player served its purpose for over a year until the cassette mechanism finally took a crap on me, so it was time to consume a unusual deck.

I contemplated the belief of objective picking up any CD/MP3 deck, but figured why not consume some extra cash and have a unique toy that I can luxuriate in?

Installation was a poke and I had it installed, wired, and running in less than 30 minutes. The chase in my van is easy to work with, so you mileage may very for ease of installation. There's nothing special about installing this unit when compared to a standard deck.

Now on to the pro's and con's of the VM9311TS:

Pro's:

- First and foremost is the designate. You will not net any unit with the features this unit has for this heed range!

- Audio and Video quality: playback of DivX, XviD, MPEG's, and standard DVD's are crystal determined. No noticeable pixilation, fading, etc.

- Using the touch cover to navigate through DVD's is very user favorable.

- While not an iPod user yet, the ability to connect your iPod to the unit and have beefy control over it using the touch shroud is a substantial plus. I actually caved in and bought an 80GB iPod Video. I haven't received it yet, but I am looking forward to getting it. I'm dumping my entire 40GB music collection onto the iPod along with all my episodes of Lost, Prison Smash, Family Guy, etc onto one allotment of hardware. The ability to fully the iPod using the touch cover is a colossal plus!

- Full station of audio and video outputs. You can connect this unit to your external amp, subs, etc.

- Full position of audio video inputs. You can scramble in your video camera to review what you've recorded, Xbox, PlayStation, and anything else with a standard composite (RCA) yellow jack output.

Con's:

- Navigating a DVD chunky of MP3 is extremely expressionless. Here's why... You glean a beefy dump of EVERYTHING on your mask. You can't navigate by Album, Artist, Year, etc. So if I have a MP3 album of Anita Baker and an MP3 album of Usher I actually have to "click" the directory button over 50 times until I win to the artists with their name's being closer the waste of the alphabet. You can also expend the soft button on the cover to the next directory, but even then you have to press it over 50 times to win through your entire collection. I called Jensen and they confirmed that yes "you have to navigate through all the albums until you win to what you want.

- To effect things worse you can not fast-forward or rewind MP3's. This was also confirmed by Jensen.

- I burned a DVD of all the unusual Prison Wreck episodes which were in DivX format. They played befriend beautifully, but here's the most irritating plight. As soon as you turn off your deck (i.e. turn of your car) the video will commence playing over again from the beginning. You can skip over to the next video file on the disc, but again, after power-cycling your vehicle the deck will originate over with the first file on the disc.

- As with the MP3's you can not fast-forward or rewind individual video files. This was confirmed by Jensen.

- No ability to change the scrutinize of what I call the operating system (OS) . You can't change the wallpaper, color way, etc. What you leer is what you glean.

- Navigating through a DVD burned with hundreds if not thousands of MP3's is extremely boring. The OS definitely needs tweaking and enhancements, so I'm hoping that Jensen releases firmware updates in the future.

- Every time you turn your vehicle off and restart it, it takes up to 40 seconds before the track you were listening to resumes on a DVD-R. Navigating and resuming playback with a standard 700MB CD-R is faster when re-starting your vehicle.

So with all the cons aside it's mild a sparkling nice unit for the notice. When the iPod arrives I'll post an update and let you guys know what I consider.

It's dejected that I had to plunk down another $330 honest to procure the deck to be more user kindly and functional, but my hands are tied.

For somebody not looking to consume the more advanced features such as playback of DivX files this deck is perfect for them. Remember that you can't fast-forward or rewind MP3's, so that may irritate even the non-techie.

So with review coming to an demolish I give this unit a 3 out of 5.

George

I bought this unit and installed it into my Tucson 2005 before Christmas. It enhanced my factory speaker system (with subwoofer) a lot, beating the Bose speaker system in my friend's Infinity G35. The DVD movie plays smoothly even when I'm driving (of course, you've got to enter some hacking code to bypass the no-video-playing-while-driving nonsense) . Wy wife can now luxuriate in her gigantic collection of DVD movies in any long trips. I simply relish tons of music on DVD when driving alone.

Only 4 stars because it was stuck at some MP3's writen on DVD. It is also a hassle to install its media module for IPOD and XM radio (but why do I need them if I can save my collection of 10k MP3's on several DVD's? ) .

Excellent... but you need to enter a dvd movie an press discontinuance (x2), enter the code 1264 (secret menu to multizone, handbrake, etc), down (1 time with control) and 1 to rigth to unlock the hand brake protection... but it nice and the video resolution its so well-behaved.
